With nearly 30 years experience in HR and Employment Law, as a Freelance HR consultant I can honestly say there isn't an HR issue that I haven't already tackled in my career.
I'm a true HR generalist, having honed my skills in smaller SMEs as well as large corporates and public sector organisations. I provide commercially focused and cost effective flexible HR advice, backed by professional indemnity insurance.
As a highly experienced freelance HR consultant my client base is varied but I specialise in the not for profit sector and SMEs. Repeat clients during 2023 include an advocacy charity in Glasgow, a family owned design consultancy in Leeds and a group of car dealerships across the North West.
Previous charity clients include a community food bank, a large London charity with a royal patron and an historic animal charity in Edinburgh. I am also a long standing charity trustee so I really understand how charities operate both strategically and operationally and have hands on experience of charity governance and regulation.
I have an in-depth understanding of SMEs, in particular family owned and operated businesses, and have worked as the outsourced HR partner with nearly every type of small family business - breweries, farms, independent high street retailers, hairdressers and even a forensic scienlaboratory.
Dealing with the safe termination of employment at all levels, the drafting and negotiation of settlement agreements, managing grievances, and implementing new contractual terms are common assignments.
I also review and draft contracts of employment and employee handbooks to ensure compliance with current legislation and manage recruitment processes from advert to appointment.
What all my clients value is my pragmatic approach, grounded in common sense with a detailed knowledge of current employment law. My job is to keep my clients out of employment tribunal whilst simultaneously delivering their preferred business outcome.
Clients call on my HR consultancy services in a variety of ways. Some use me on a case by case basis, when they've hit a problem that they don't know how to solve, others prefer to engage me on a retained basis, ensuring they have priority access to my time and expertise for a set amount of hours each month.
I am flexible in how I work and clients can use my services in whatever way works best for them. Being freelance I choose to work a non traditional working week, so I am available to my clients in the evening and at weekends as well as normal office hours. My clients' businesses don't close at 5pm so neither do I!
For smaller pieces of work I charge by the hour (or pro rata in 10 minute blocks) so my clients only pay for exactly what they need. I provide detailed invoices demonstrating how the charges have been incurred providing transparency and value for money.
For retained clients or bigger assignments, prices are negotiated in advance on a daily rate or half rate basis.
My fees are highly competitive and always much less than a solicitor would charge.
I work remotely all over the UK and face to face across the North of England.
